POLICIES
The Department of Nursing is run by courteous &
duly qualified Registered Staff Nurses and highly
competent Nurse Aides who look after the minutest
details of their patients' comforts and daily needs.
Nursing Staff carries out the treatment prescribed
by your physician. Nurses are the backbone of hospitals
and an integral part of the health care team. They
deserve to be treated with respect and sensitivity.
The following policies of the Department of Nursing
are approved by Indus Hospital.
1. All patients admitted to the Hospital must sign
the Consent Forms before initiation of any treatment,
except in life threatening situations. Procedures
/ Operations , involving certain degree of risk or
complications, require Informed (Special) Consent.
The physician / surgeon in-charge will explain the
procedure with relevant details in advance before
you sign the forms. Do not hesitate to ask questions
if there is anything you do not understand about the
special procedures, including their benefits and risks
involved.
2.All patients are entitled to know the identity of
the members of the Hospital staff involved in their
medical care and refuse treatment without giving any
reasons, provided they are not minors or medico-legally
incompetent.
3. Medicines prescribed by practitioners not associated
with Indus Hospital are not allowed to be consumed
at Indus without the written consent of your physician
in-charge. All such medications must be discussed
in advance with your physician in-charge at Indus
Hospital. Any ill effects / cross reactions sustained
by consumption of drugs without the knowledge of your
physician at Indus Hospital will be at your own risk.
All patients must disclose food / drug allergies to
the physician at the time of admission. Suppression
of relevant information on the part of the patient
/ relatives / attendants from the medical / nursing
staff will hold the Hospital harmless in case of professional
liability.
4. Patients are not allowed to leave the Nursing Floor
without the permission of the Nurse in-charge. In
rare instances , with the consent of the physician
in-charge , patients may be permitted to leave the
Hospital for short intervals of time, provided certain
Hospital Guidelines are strictly adhered to .
5.Sponge bath / back rub/ toilet assistance / feeding
assistance is provided to all the bed-ridden / handicapped
patients by the Nursing Staff on daily basis. However
, hair wash, shower /bathing must be authorized by
written order of the physician upon patient's request.
6. All patients must wear the Hospital uniforms .
Bed linen is changed twice a week / every time the
patient is discharged. Room heaters, oxygen flow meters
or any other Hospital equipment must be handled by
the Hospital Staff on duty only. Patients / relatives
/ attendants must not handle / adjust any equipment
by themselves. For protection against the flies, mosquitoes
and monkeys, wire-net windows must be kept closed
at all times. Window hooks must be used for stabilization
if glass windows are to be opened. It is recommended
that glass windows be kept closed during the rainy
season and stormy weather.
7. Patients suspected to be suffering from communicable
diseases must be admitted to Isolation Wards till
the time they are allowed to occupy beds in the general
wards upon written orders of the physician. All patients
in respiratory isolation wards and their visitors
must wear face masks for protection. For the supply
of disposable face masks, visitors should contact
the Nursing Station.
8. Patients too sick to be cared for/monitored in
the general wards/private rooms must be shifted to
critical care unit as soon as possible.
9. Patients too weak / old / confused / connected
to life saving equipment / recovering from major surgical
procedures are not allowed to get out of bed or walk
around without assistance which is to be provided
by the nursing staff only. Telephones are provided
in all Wards and Private Rooms. You may ask for nursing
assistance of all sorts just by dialing 399.
10.To make outside telephone calls, please call the
telephone operator by dialing 9. Tariff for telephone
calls is chargeable to your Hospital bill.
11.Indus Hospital reserves the right to use physical
restraints on patients who are likely to hurt themselves
/ others as a result of mental confusion / intoxication
/ hostility / otherwise.
12.As a safety precaution against overmedicating patients,
Hospital policy forbids the Nursing Staff from dispensing
pain / sleep medications without patients' request.
Please do not forget to ask your nurse for pain /
sleep medications if you hurt or cannot go to sleep.
Such restrictions do not apply to other medications
which are dispensed automatically as prescribed.
13.As a matter of Hospital policy, tipping / rewarding
of individual Hospital employees is strictly forbidden.
True professionals consider it below their dignity
to accept personal gifts for work done in the line
of their duty. However, grateful patients may express
their gratitude in other ways. You may discuss with
the Hospital Manager / Administration for suggestions.
14. If you have any complaints during your hospital
stay, feel free to bring them to the notice of the
nurse in-charge / physician in-charge / Hospital Administration
. All genuine complaints are looked into and resolved
to the best of our abilities . Avoid getting into
arguments with the junior staff.
15.All patients are free to seek consultations / second
opinions from senior staff physicians affiliated to
Indus Hospital by requesting their physician in-charge.
Opinions / orders/ treatment suggested by outside
physicians may not be binding on your physician in-charge.
The Hospital reserves its right to repeat all or part
of the investigations done elsewhere for documentation
and verification.
16. Patients' relatives / attendants/visitors must
make use of public toilets provided on the ground
floor / cafeteria. Use of toilets in the wards by
attendants/visitors is strictly prohibited , unless
the patient is admitted to a private room in which
case use of attached toilets is permissible. Patients
and their attendants are warned not to throw sanitary
napkins, cotton pads, plastic items or other foreign
bodies into the toilet bowls, Such items may clog
the concealed Hospital sewage pipes which would require
a major plumbing repair job to rectify.
17.Dustbins are provided in the Hospital premises
and inside the Building. Littering the environment
and urination/ defecation in the open spaces of the
Hospital campus is strictly forbidden. Violators will
be reported to the H.P. Department of Environment
Protection and Pollution Control for necessary action.
Please, help us serve you better by keeping the premises
clean. Hospital personnel are authorized to check
compliance with the environmental policy.
