ADMISSION PROCEDURES

[I] Prior to hospitalization your physician is expected to explain to you / your attendant, the provisional diagnosis, proposed line of investigations and treatment, approximate length of stay and reasons for admission to the Hospital. Should he / she forget to explain or you fail to understand, do not hesitate to ask again. Questions pertaining to these topics should not be addressed to the Hospital Staff other than the senior physician who is responsible for admitting you to the Hospital. Information provided by the paramedical / junior staff may be misleading or incomplete at the best. Although, Indus will do its utmost to achieve the best outcome in each case, no guarantees, whatsoever, are given or intended with respect to any treatment / test / procedure rendered at the Hospital.

[II] Cost estimates are available during the normal working hours of the Hospital from the Business Office located on the Ground Floor. You / your attendant should contact the Business / Accounting office for all questions related to financial matters prior to hospitalization or as soon as possible thereafter, in case of emergency admission. Your physician is not qualified to answer questions pertaining to financial matters. Please remember that all cost estimates are approximations at their best and are based upon previous experience of the Hospital and information provided by your admitting physician. Actual expenses may vary, depending upon the length of stay, change of treatment plans, additional investigations, etc. Also, Hospital rates reflect the Standards of Care at Indus which insists upon evidence based scientific practice of medicine for confirmation and documentation of diagnosis, as far as possible, through laboratory investigations, since provisional diagnosis, based on subjective observation alone, may be in error. Costs are significantly lower than those of the comparable modern health care institutions elsewhere, but higher than the rates charged by institutions funded / subsidized by the Government / Non-Governmental Organizations.

[III] After admissions, patients are advised not to keep any cash, valuables or jewellery with them . All such items must be given to their relatives or handed over to the Nurse in-charge / Business Office for safe custody. In all such cases a receipt of the itemized list of valuables deposited with the Hospital must be obtained from the concerned staff by the patient and surrendered at the time when the valuables are returned to the patient. Indus Hospital is not responsible for loss of any property / valuables of patients / their relatives if the said guidelines are violated by the patients.

[IV] Use of intoxicants / smoking / carrying explosives or firearms by the patients or their attendants is strictly prohibited in the Hospital premises. Such offence would be immediately reported to the police authorities.

[V] It is contrary to the Hospital Policy to admit patients with known mental illnesses/Medico-legal problems to Indus Hospital. Failure to disclose such information at the time of admission by the patient/relatives will result in immediate discharge and release of liability, if any, on the part of Indus Hospital.

[VI] Dumping of terminally ill / handicapped / indigent / incompetent patients at Indus Hospital on the part of their relatives / attendants is strictly prohibited. Relatives / attendants of such patients should be available to the physician in-charge to discuss/report their progress on daily basis. Failure to do so will release the Hospital from any liability claims.

[VII] Patients scheduled for major surgery under general/spinal anaesthesia are required to be cleared for such surgery by the medical service in advance. In certain doubtful situations or upon patient's request, it is mandatory for the admitting physician to seek consultation from another specialist associated with Indus Hospital. Some times he/she, with your approval and in the interest of better patient care, may decide to seek such opinion himself.

[VIII] Relatives / Attendants are not allowed to stay in the general wards with the exception of visiting hours, unless, of course, the patient is a child, legally incompetent, terminally ill and admitted to the Critical Care Unit or a private room. In all such cases, only one attendant / relative is required to stay with the patient around the clock with the sole exception of Critical Care Unit where attandants / relatives may visit the patient for five (5) minutes, every hour. Sitting/ Sleeping in unoccupied hospital beds in unhygienic and strictly prohibited. If the patient is allowed to walk around, relative / attendants should make use of the sitting arrangement provided opposite each Nursing Station.
